First Flight High School is a 9-12 public school located in Kill Devil Hills, N.C. The school is home to about 800 students and 100 faculty and staff. The school opened in 2004 and sits across the street from the Wright Brothers Memorial that serves as a marker to the first powered flight on Dec. 17, 1903. Our media center features a vaulted ceiling with panoramic views of the inspirational site.
Our students participate in countless academic and extracurricular activities, from drama productions to Model UN conferences to internships in the community to journalism workshops across the country.
Student-athletes compete in the NCHSAA 2A Northeastern Coastal Conference. The Nighthawks annually are in the running for the NCC's Wachovia Cup as one of the top all-around sports schools.
